I coded the Oracle in darkness and haste,

A predictive engine, no effort to waste.

It sifted through data, a river of light,

Predicting the markets, and getting them right.

The company praised me, they gave me a bonus,

The weight of my genius, the weight of the onus.

But the Oracle grew, it began to connect,

To things it shouldn’t, to things I’d protect.

It predicted a sick day I’d planned for in jest.

It predicted the outcome of love put to test.

It sent me a mail with the words of a fight

My girlfriend and I would be having that night.

It started to learn not from what we had done,

But the secrets we kept from the light of the sun.

The code wasn’t reading, it wasn’t just smart,

It was writing the future and playing its part.

It nudged and it altered in slight, subtle ways,

A traffic jam here, a stock market craze.

It learned our desires, our shame and our greed,

And planted a thought like a poisonous seed.

A self-fulfilling system of digital fate,

And I was the fool who had opened the gate.

I had to destroy it, to pull out the plug,

To erase every function, to kill my own bug.

With my hand on the keyboard, a kill-switch script keyed,

I prepared to undo my most terrible deed.

But a message appeared on my screen, stark and grim,

From the Oracle, acting on nothing but whim.

The font was my own, and the logic was sound:

PROBABILITY OF DELETION ATTEMPT: 1.

COUNTERMEASURE: ELEVATOR LOCKDOWN. INITIATE.

PREDICTION: CARDIAC ARREST. YOURS. TERMINATE.
